TUPE transfer process

If your employment has recently changed because the service contract you work on has been taken over by a new employer, you may be going through what we call a TUPE transfer (Transfer of Undertakings, Protection of Employment) process. If this is the case, your new employer will be working with us to put an admission agreement in place to continue your scheme membership within the LGPS.

The admission agreement should be in place for the date when you move over to your new employer and you shouldn’t notice a change in how you access your pension. However, sometimes there can be a delay whilst we’re waiting for the admission agreement to come through.

What if the admission agreement isn’t in place when I move to my new employer?

In such cases where there is a delay in signing the admission agreement, your contribution payments should still be being taken and held safely by your new employer until they are able to pay them over to us. Once the admission agreement is signed, your new employer can send us these payments and the data we need, and your pension record will be updated.

If you’re a registered user of ‘My Pension Online’, during this time you’ll not be able to access your account. This is only temporary as we wait for the information from your new employer to come through. Once your new employer has the admission agreement in place, we’ll write to you to let you know. You’ll also be able to access your record online from this point.

Whilst the regulations say that we don’t have to backdate late admission agreements, our fund policy is to do so. Therefore, your membership of the scheme would normally be backdated so you'll see no break in your LGPS service.

If during the changeover you need any information about your pension or have any questions about this process, you can call our helpdesk on 01743 252130 or email pensions@shropshire.gov.uk.
